Streamer of the month - February 2021 Happy Harlequin

Happy Harlequin

Do you remember the first name you ever gave a Hero/Monster in a game? What was it?

It was Fang my Raticate from Pokemon Yellow Version on the gameboy color when i first played it 21 years ago.

What streamer did you watch the most before you started streaming? What game did they stream?

I watched a lot of small streamers. It started with finding people who were playing Sea Of Thieves and wound up building friendships with some of them like Bobnonymous1 and Barndor19 and now i have friends who stream all sorts of games like TrashmanTerry who plays a lot of the Souls games and Zackafoo who plays a bunch of Pokemon nuzlockes.

Who or what got you into streaming video games? What would you say to them if you could?

My wife. It was always a dream of mine to turn my passion for gaming into something more. After my daughter was born in July ,I went on paternity leave and we adjusted to the new addition to the family, my wife gave me the go ahead and my first stream happened in November 2020. I just want to say: Thank you for your support. and I love you so much!

Do you remember your 1st stream? How did it make you feel?

My first stream was on Tuesday November 17th, 2020. I Streamed Alice Madness returns for an hour and a half or so, got 5 followers. It made me feel like I had a lot to learn. I realized I wasn’t interacting with chat as much as I’d like and felt I had found important areas to improve on for future streams.

Do you ever struggle turning on the mic and camera?

The hardest part is just finding the time. With a now almost 7 month old and almost full time work, it’s hard to decide to step in front of the camera but if even 1 person shows up in chat i think it makes the whole stream worth it.

What was your favorite upgrade to your stream?

My new microphone. My parents got me a USB Condenser Mic for Christmas 2020 and, I have to say,

I sound a lot better and louder than my previous streams.

How about your computer?

I built my computer in December 2019 its main components are:

Ryzen 5 3600 CPU

Radeon RX5700 GPU

X570 Phantom Gaming 4 Motherboard

32GB at 3600Mhz Ripjaws G.Skill Ram

Elgato pro60hd Internal Capture Card

1TB Samsung 970 Evo NVME M.2 SSD

2TB Western Digital Blue HDD

650W EVGA 80+ Bronze PSU

What's one thing non-streamers don't understand about what streaming is actually like?

It Gets Stressful, especially when things come up that take precedence over the stream, like if I need to help my daughter or if my wife needs something, I kinda just need to step away from the stream and do it. And I feel guilty because I’m wanting to be on stream for the viewers but family comes first.

How do you mentally handle yourself when you're behind in an important game during a stream.

Any break I have, like when I’m dead in League of Legends or if I can hit the pause button to take a breath in an adventure game I will use that opportunity to interact with the viewers. I get really into my games so this is something I’m working on.

What do you consider to be your career highlight?

I really enjoyed my full playthrough of Alice madness returns over multiple days in a row. I think it’s a total of 16 hours. And i’ve been having a lot of fun playing Horizon Zero Dawn.

Any Shout-outs you would like to give?

I’d love to give a shout out to Bobnonymous1, Barndor19, Zackafoo, TrashmanTerry, NatDelos, CrossingChrono, FEVERXXDREAM, and AntSlug for all their support and they are all great streamers

What is an "inside joke" or "saying" you have with your community?

I don’t have an inside joke, catchphrase or saying yet. I’m hoping it’ll develop naturally though and once I have it, it’ll make the streams more fun and I can find ways to use it in games.

Are your wires hidden?

For the most part… Yeah! Now that I think about it looking around my desk.

OBS or StreamLabs?

StreamLabs. It’s just what I’ve used and am most comfortable with.

What was the very first video game you ever played?

It was probably Mario Brothers on the NES at my cousin’s house.

What video editing software do you prefer?

I don’t edit videos right now, primarily I’m Streaming but my cousin says he wants to get into video editing and wanted to use my material as practice and may in the future edit for me on youtube.

What was the most Challenging thing about setting up your stream? What about the most fun thing?

The most challenging thing was getting the courage up to be in front of the camera for the first time. I have stage fright, I’m not gonna lie, and every time I turn the camera on I get a bit anxious and worry about whether I’m doing a good job or not. As for the most fun thing? I had a lot of fun setting up sound effects on my stream. I’ve been playing around a lot with Audacity and mixing my own sounds from samples and recordings.

How did you feel when you were chosen to be the Rift Damage "Streamer of the Month?

First thought was “wait… I just started streaming and now i’m getting sponsored… what’s going on here?” and after meeting Josh over discord and working with him I can say I’m glad to be a part of the Rift Damage Community and I, taking after my namesake, am happy I was chosen to be February’s Streamer of the Month.

Would you stop playing video games for the rest of your life for $500,000?

I couldn’t if I tried. Video games have been a central part of my life. It’s one of the ways my father and I connected when I was growing up and I have many fond memories of Sleepovers at my cousins' and friends' houses staying up all night playing games. It’s one of my ideal ways to wind down after a stressful day and I don’t think I could function without them. What I’m saying is… if I did take the money, I’d have to give it back real quick.

Say something to your community.

I provide the space but what makes our community really shine is you the viewers. I might have fun in front of the camera and when playing games but the moments I love most are when I can chat with friends, make jokes and experience the games being played together. SO THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING YOU! And I wouldn’t want you any other way. Stay Happy! (trying out this catchphrase, the earlier question got me thinkin’ :D)
